Did You Know..?
Hey everyone,
I was busy reading up on my "feature news story" candidate's wiki page and came across a very interesting set of YouTube videos titled, "Did You Know..?". Each of the videos in the series focus on a specific topic. The information presented is mind-boggling. (Yes, I said it, Mind...BOGGLING). Here is one that I found on Social Media.

For example, here is a fact found in the video... "More video was uploaded to YouTube in the last two months than if ABC, NBC, and CBS had been airing new content 24/7/365 since 1948. (Which was when ABC started broadcasting)."

That is amazing. The degree to which social media has influenced and really, shaped, our lives is phenominal. Really, unpresedented by any other means of communication to any other age demographic throughout history.

Another intersting one, "10 Million, the number of unique visitors ABC, NBC, and CBS get every month, collectively. These businesses have been around for a combined 200 years. 250 Million, the number of unique visitors myspace.com, YouTube, and facebook get every month, collectively. None of these sites existed 6 years ago."

This just shows how socially aware and responsive our generation has become. Myself, being one who is semi-torn between keeping up with the times and holding some sort of self preservation, cannot decide whether this is a shift for the better or worse. Check out the video and see for yourself. .

Here is another one that is pretty interesting as well. Did You Know 3.0
Enjoy!

The Twitter Experience

In my Advertising/Public Relations Writing class we were assigned to create a Twitter account and update it twice daily as well as respond to one of our classmates updates once per day. This was to take place for two weeks and then we would write a brief response to the activity. So here it is..:

As I type we are sitting in class talking about Twitter. Twitter this Twitter that... I am so over Twitter. There is almost nothing about twitter that I find remotely enticing. I do like the fact that I can be updated with real-time news. It is one of the only things that I find beneficial.

I do not like the idea that social media networks are taking away from people's real life experiences. The days of going for walks or meeting friends for face to face discussions are dwindling. Though many may argue that you can have this same interaction through online forums, like Twitter for example, I still believe something is inherently missing online.

I enjoyed becoming aware of the "Twitter world." I never want to fall to a place where I am unaware of the venues of communication available. I enjoy learning advances in social media and hope to continue learning. I do not think that two weeks was enough time to convince a disbeliever, like myself, that Twitter has value. Because of this, I am going to continue using and learning from Twitter. Who knows, maybe in a few more weeks I will be praising Twitter... I will keep my mind open for now.

Here is a site that my professor Gee found about Funny ads... thought you might enjoy it as much as Liz and I have...

http://om.ly/Iogk
After giving my Mother much grief over her recently acquired "blog," I have finally decided to start one of my own. Granted it may have been because of a course requirement for my Public Relations class, it none-the-less is a start to my interactive social media education. You would think that growing up in technologically savvy generation I would have already had a blog, twitter, or something similar but my desire for privacy always prevailed. I am looking forward to turning this into a sort of mixed blog; one in which I can easily update my family (Mother) with pictures and journals of my last year in college but also a forum to express my views on politics, current events, and other topics concerning the world.

This is all for now-
Robin
